Approximately 400 million years ago, sea scorpions as large as small alligators ruled the oceans. With their formidable claws and robust exoskeletons, these 2.5-meter-long predators reigned supreme in their domain.
Previously, most fossils of these marine scorpions were discovered in North America and Europe. However, recent discoveries in China and Australia hint that these arthropods may have journeyed vast distances.
In a recent study, paleobiologist Russell Bicknell of the American Museum of Natural History and his team analyzed two new sets of fossils from Australia.
