This year, Olympic surfing was held 10,000 miles from Paris, in the village of Teahupo’o in Tahiti, renowned for its heavy waves. The swells that create these giant, perfectly shaped waves off the coast of Tahiti are generated by storms in the South Pacific below New Zealand.
